The Gospel tract “Follow Me”
Jesus met Philip face to face and said, “Follow me!” The expression in his
eyes and the authority in his voice convinced Philip who soon witnessed to
Nathanael, “We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets did
write: Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” But Nathanael doubted and
questioned, “Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Philip encouraged
him to, “Come and see!”
Nathanael responded. When they met, Jesus told him personal things about him
that no other could know. Nathanael had met the all-knowing Jesus Christ, his
questions had been answered and, moments later, he openly confessed, “Rabbi, you
are the Son of God. You are the King of Israel!”
Perhaps you have been encouraged by a friend to “Come and see Jesus.” If you
respond, you will meet Christ face to face. He knows all about you, your past,
the feelings in your heart…and he loves you. He speaks to you and says to you,
“Follow me!” Like Nathanael, your questions will be answered but, first, you
must respond to Jesus Christ who is the Son of God. And he has told you, “Follow
me!”
Do you wait? Are you hesitating? All right, let me tell you more about Jesus and
about yourself. Jesus had turned thirty and was a craftsman, a carpenter by
trade. He also was one other thing. He was the chosen one by God to live a
totally honest and loving life that would teach and show all how to live their
lives in harmony with God’s love. When you confess with your heart “Jesus is the
Son of God,” he who loves you with God’s love with teach you how to live by that
love. You must be taught; you must follow!
Are you ready to become a Christian now? Repeat this prayer aloud after you read
each part
Jesus… You are the Son of God… You know me… You know my past… You know all about
me… You know when I was in error… You know when I lied… You know when I took
from those who had the things I wanted… You know when I abused my health and my
mind… I have drunk from that bitter cup of jealousy, hatred, envy and strife… I
have been inconsiderate, impatient, even cruel… I have forsaken those who
trusted me… I’ve settled for less in life than I know you can offer… I repent of
my sins now… I’m sorry… Oh, God! I’m sorry… Jesus forgive me.
That was a confession of sin.
Now offer this out loud to God as your confession of faith
“I believe in your life, Jesus. I believe in your death on the cross, and your
shed innocent blood. I believe in the eternal life God gave in you, his only
son, and that he raised you from the dead, gave you new resurrection power, and
that you now hear my prayer in heaven by the side of God, our Father. I believe
my sins are forgiven me because of my trust in your promises—your words in the
Bible—where you said, ‘All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth’
(Matthew 28:18) and ‘But to all who received him (Jesus) who believed in his
name, he gave power to become children of God; who were born, not of blood nor
of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God (John 1:12-13).’”
The apostle Paul wrote to the Christians in Ephesus: “And you, too, trusted
Jesus when you had heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. And
after you gave your confidence to him you were, so to speak, stamped with the
promised Holy Spirit, as a pledge of our inheritance, until the day when God
completes the redemption of what is his own (Ephesians 1:13-14).”
When Jesus began the church it was small with only him—The Shepherd—and no
members. Jesus spoke the truth of God the Father, the truth about the Holy
Spirit, and about himself, the Christ. He spoke the words of God; he performed
miracles by the power of the Holy Spirit; and he won the people’s love with the
tenderness and compassion in his eyes, voice and touch—his unselfish life. Now,
as you accept Christ into your heart along with this word of God and faith
planted there, your spiritual beginning will be small—just like the church was
first small—but this will grow as you yield up your own time and desires to
direction by God.
With Christ in your heart you won’t feel like you are “having to give up” your
old ways; instead, you’ll be shedding off an outgrown coat in favor of your
putting on a cloak of Christ’s righteousness. Paul wrote to the Church at
Ephesus (and us): The Holy Spirit seals the love of Jesus in your heart. As you
study the Bible and have fellowship with Christians and learn to worship God and
pray, this love will grow. God will use you to affect other people’s lives in
his divine way.
With power in your life brought about by the fullness of the Holy Spirit in your
actions and prayers, you become an enlightened, “Spirit-filled Christian.”
That’s being complete in God’s eyes and a pleasure to him.
